Five things worth your attention from India’s consumer economy this morning.

1. Boldfit Raises Rs 400 Crore For Stores

Bengaluru-based Boldfit closed a Series B of over Rs 400 crore on October 12, led by Bharat Value Fund, a Category II alternative investment fund managed by The Wealth Company Alternates. That is roughly $42 million, and it is domestic money rather than a foreign venture cheque. The brand sells whey, shakers, resistance bands and sportswear, almost all of it through marketplaces, and the capital is earmarked for its own physical stores, manufacturing and selective acquisitions. The read is that a listing page can only do so much in supplements, where a shopper wants to pick the tub up and read the label. (Entrackr)

2. FMCG Revenue Grows Faster Than Profit

Previewing the September quarter, ICICI Direct Research expects Marico, Godrej Consumer Products and Dabur to post 10 to 20% revenue growth, with volumes in the high single to low double digits. It also expects EBITDA growth to trail revenue for most of its coverage, because input costs are eroding operating margins. Marico is the exception. Dabur’s own update said the same in company language: double-digit revenue, hair oils and digestives in the high teens, and margins hit by elevated inflation in home and personal care. The extra rupee of sale is arriving at a worse margin than last year’s rupee. (ICICI Direct Research, via BusinessWorld)

3. Spinny Delivers 1,370 Cars In One Day

Spinny says it handed over 1,370 used cars across 24 Indian cities on October 11, the first day of Navratri, 96% more than the same day last year. A single-day figure is a marketing figure, but a near-doubling is hard to manufacture, and it sits alongside September retail data that showed record festive vehicle sales after the GST change. Roughly 57 handovers per city, each with inspection, paperwork and a delivery slot, is a logistics statement as much as a demand one. The average ticket size has not been disclosed, so the revenue behind the number is unknown. (Autocar Professional)

4. Spykar Adds 100 Stores In Two Years

The denim brand will open about 100 stores over the next two years, taking its network past 380 outlets, and recent openings include Ghaziabad, Visakhapatnam, Simdega and Darbhanga. Simdega is a district town in Jharkhand and Darbhanga is in north Bihar, and neither is where a denim brand opened when the playbook was metro malls first. Value and mid-market apparel is the part of organised fashion still holding its growth, and store count is where that shows up before revenue does. (Indian Retailer)

5. Nine IPOs Open In One Week

Six mainboard issues and three SME issues open between October 13 and October 15, asking for about Rs 10,506 crore in total, of which Rs 10,288 crore is mainboard. Five of the nine open on October 15 alone, including Bonfiglioli Transmissions at Rs 2,533.6 crore and Sahajanand Medical Technologies at Rs 475.5 crore, with HD Fire Protect opening today at Rs 712.3 crore. Issuers cluster into the festive fortnight because retail participation peaks, but five books on one morning means the same pool of money prices five companies at once, and the mid-sized names are usually where that shows.
