Five numbers from the last two days, and the arithmetic that actually explains them.

Lenskart’s profit more than doubled to Rs 232 crore

Lenskart Solutions reported revenue from operations of Rs 2,845 crore for the September quarter, up 35.7% from Rs 2,096 crore. Profit after tax reached Rs 232.45 crore against Rs 103.45 crore, a rise of about 125%. Across the half year revenue grew about 39% and profit nearly tripled, to Rs 461 crore from Rs 165 crore. About Rs 21 crore of the increase came from higher non-operating income, so roughly a sixth of the jump is not retail performance. The rest looks like operating leverage, which runs in reverse if footfall slows. (Angel One, November 4)

Nykaa’s profit tripled to Rs 101 crore

FSN E-Commerce Ventures grew September-quarter revenue 28% to Rs 3,006 crore and turned Rs 33 crore of profit into Rs 101 crore. Beauty supplied Rs 2,700 crore of that revenue, about 90%, while fashion contributed Rs 287 crore. Total expenses rose 25% against revenue growth of 28%, and that three-point gap on a Rs 3,000 crore base is most of where the extra profit came from. At a net margin of about 3.4%, the tripling is real and the base it tripled from was thin. (BW Disrupt, November 5)

Bira 91’s maker faces an insolvency plea over Rs 1.02 crore

upGrad Education filed a Section 9 petition at the NCLT’s Delhi bench on October 22 against B9 Beverages, which makes Bira 91, over Rs 1.02 crore of alleged unpaid dues. The company reported a net loss of Rs 748 crore in FY24 and carries accumulated losses of Rs 2,117.9 crore, and a second creditor is separately seeking about Rs 11.8 crore over customised bottles made to order and never collected. The read is that the size of any single claim stopped being the signal some time ago, and the number of claimants is now the thing to count. (Inc42 and BusinessWorld, November 4)

India will fund 30% of four critical-mineral plants

The Union Cabinet approved a Rs 2,814 crore capital-support scheme on November 4, running from FY27 to FY31. It pays a 30% capital subsidy capped at Rs 500 crore for each lithium beneficiary and Rs 900 crore for each nickel beneficiary, covering two lithium plants of at least 30 kilotonnes each and two nickel plants of at least 50 kilotonnes each. Those ceilings correspond to a lithium plant costing about Rs 1,670 crore and a nickel plant about Rs 3,000 crore. Whether four plants is enough depends on how much cell manufacturing gets built alongside, which the scheme does not address. (ANI via The Tribune, November 4)

Eggoz spent Rs 1.27 to earn every rupee

The branded egg company grew FY26 operating revenue 39% to Rs 180 crore and widened its net loss 83% to Rs 42 crore. Total spending rose about 48% to Rs 228 crore, outpacing revenue, with raw material procurement alone at Rs 142 crore, more than 62% of costs. Cash and bank balances stood at Rs 33 crore in March 2026, roughly nine months against last year’s burn. A branded egg has to earn its shelf premium faster than feed prices move, and on these numbers it is not yet doing that. (Indian Retailer, November 4)
